Manhattan's Chinatown celebrated The Year of the Rooster with customary exuberance yesterday afternoon, as tens of thousands lined the streets downtown for the annual Lunar New Year Parade.

There were dragons and beauty queens, expensive cars and politicians, lion dances and corporate floats, drummers and dancers and scores of giddy young children.

And, of course, confetti filled the air (and the gutters) from innumerable poppers. For many, in fact, setting off poppers seemed to be the whole point of the day, and the closed-off streets near the parade route became massive confetti parties.

According the Internet, "in the year of the Rooster 2017, we will hear more cutting criticisms of those in the public life and feathers might well fly as prides are dented, nevertheless all will benefit from the rude awakening."
