Last weekend, just off the B/Q in Brooklyn, owners of some gorgeous old homes opened their doors to strangers during the annual Victorian Flatbush House Tour, reminding us that we live in a city where we will pay money to see a wrap-around porch... and driveways, garages, and what more than 600-square-feet looks like together all in one space.

The event was hosted by the Flatbush Development Corporation, and the area "is comprised of about twelve micro-neighborhoods, many of which are landmarked, with others seeking the protected status to preserve the remarkable streetscapes." It was developed around 1900 and billed as "a piece of suburban life just minutes from Manhattan." The Vanderbilts, the Carnegies, the Gillettes, and the Guggenheims all once called it home.
