One of our favorite signs of spring is the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Sakura Matsuri festival, which celebrates blossoming cherry trees and individuality—thanks to the cosplayers who don elaborate, sometimes other-worldly outfits and happily pose for pictures.

Photographer Sai Mokhtari says the creativity was at peak bloom yesterday, "Positive vibes galore. Nerds, outliers, kids...everyone just playing dress up and having a blast, feeling badass and beautiful, celebrating the superhero versions of themselves. I walked away feeling so good about everyone there and this beautiful city that gives people so many opportunities to play dress up and be whatever they want to be." She added, "I had zero clue who any of the characters were (except Alice in Wonderland) but I honestly have such affections for EVERY SINGLE PERSON THERE."

Besides the cosplay fashion show, there were other demonstrations, like sword demonstration from martial arts masters, Japanese Kabuki Buyo dance and taiko drummers!
