Last year's Idiotarod was by all accounts the "worst Idiotarod ever," an event so hampered by "wack ass" routes and low-interest that it almost brought the whole enterprise to an end. But after being reorganized under new management and with a renewed sense of purpose (Hurricane Sandy relief), we can report that this year's Idiotarod bounced back just fine from last year's nadir.

Despite the cold weather, a large amount of people turned out for this year's event. A lot of awards were given out too (see them all here), including Best Costumes to "Game of Thongs," Best Cultural Reference to "Pac-Man," Lifetime Achievement Award to "Fake Work," and Best In Show to "Disasterpiece Knight Shift."

Photographer Tod Seelie noted that the team Skulleaters took second place with their impressive "four-cart creation with a working wood stove in it." He also gave this report on the event: "I think less than 15 teams showed up. Most people blame last year's fiasco for driving people away. But this year's organizers made it a friendlier race for that very reason. The route started at the Brooklyn Bridge Park and wound its way through Carroll Gardens, Red Hook and Gowanus."
