Rich people love nothing more than getting together for a few cocktails while donning insane hats. Just look at the Kentucky Derby grandstands, or the entire Royal Family. Anyway, the big fancy hats are busted out infrequently in this dirty old town, but when they are it's kind of nice to appreciate their whimsical silliness. And on that note, the High Line hosted their first ever Hat Party benefit on Thursday night, and we sent a photographer to capture the scene.

The party featured a contest, with Alan Cumming, Meatpacking District legend Florent Morellet, artist Aki Sasamoto, and NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver acting as judges. The hats ran the gamut from Handmaid's Tale bonnets, to a guy just wearing a stack of Bernie caps, to a hat version of that insane Zaha Hadid condo looming over the High Line. Click through for a look at the party, which was oozing with creative designs.
