The Idiotarod is back, and kicked off this afternoon in Brooklyn Bridge Park, just as snow flurries started in the area. For the first time ever the event is being held in Trump's U.S. of Idiocracy, and while that's not being recognized by many teams, there were a few small gestures of protest spotted. Members of Team Edward Scissorhands, for example, are carrying signs that read: "Scissorhand not tiny hands," and "Make America Goth Again."

This is the 13th annual Idiotarod, and photographer Scott Lynch tells us there are "at least fifteen teams—largest turnout in a several years."

The route is kept a secret, but the teams have departed Brooklyn Bridge Park and are making their way through the borough. More photos coming on Sunday.
