Yesterday our photographer Katie Sokoler made her annual trek to the Butterfly Conservatory at the American Museum of Natural History, which focuses on "Tropical Butterflies Alive in Winter." The 1,200-square-foot vivarium houses 500 iridescent butterflies that hover above visitors—but Sokoler tells us that when things were calm in there, the butterflies would come down and land on the visitors. (Pro tip: try to remember they're butterflies when you feel them crawling all over you—we heard the knee jerk reaction was to swat them!)

The exhibit opens to the public tomorrow (there's also a live cam!).
