There's so much happening in Brooklyn Bridge Park lately, and since there's no Brooklyn Heights Patch to report on it, we've got this covered. Yesterday the new Pier 5 fields and picnic peninsula opened, and at the press conference an update was given regarding other projects in progress within the 85-acre waterfront park. The next big opening will be Squibb Park and the pedestrian bridge that will connect it, and Brooklyn Heights, to Pier 1. The bridge is set to be complete by year's end, and this morning installation began.

Last week we took a hard hat tour of the bridge spans—you can see photos here—and were told that installation over Furman Street will take place at night, at which time the street will be closed. Currently the spans going up are in the park itself.

The bridge will provide a new way to navigate around the BQE when traveling by foot from DUMBO to Brooklyn Heights... and will likely be dominated by tourists.
