Elite members of New York's hirsute community gathered in Coney Island last night to drink beer and celebrate the phenomenon that is the protein-rich filament that just happens to shoot right out of our faces to make us look cool.

Photographer Ellen Moynihan was on hand to witness the sixth annual Coney Island Beard & Moustache Competition (anyone spelling it "mustache" was presumably escorted from the premises) which featured plenty of beard stroking, nefarious moustache tweaking, and a woman drinking from a tube protruding from a man's nasal cavity.
