Last month, we admired reader's photograph of a mural showing a train car and the bold words "Queens is the Future!" The mural's co-creator, Joshua Frankel, emailed us to let us know he and Eve Biddle designed it for the handball court at I.S. 45 in Jackson Heights, Queens, and it was painted as part of NYCares Day last year.

More recently, Frankel and Biddle designed three murals at P.S. 54 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Titled, "Oscar The Octopus and his Jellyfish Friends," these murals were also painted during NY Cares Day. Frankel writes, "The pattern through which the sea creatures swim is inspired by the style of hoodie sweatshirts that folks in the neighborhood were wearing at the time of the mural’s design. We selected images that compose the pattern from drawings made by the students in the school."

You can visit the Oscar and his jellyfish friends by at Nostrand Avenue and Hart Street. And NY Cares is a great organization that helps match volunteers to community needs--the next NYCares Day is October 18, learn more here.
