Snooki And Elizabeth Taylor, separated at birth?

With Jersey Shore set to return to the small screen this Thursday for a second season, the cast is all over the press. NJ Governor Chris Christie says the show is negative for New Jersey; in a recent interview he explained, "I mean, because what it does is takes a bunch of New Yorkers—most of the people on Jersey Shore are New Yorkers ... [and] drops them at the Jersey Shore, and tries to make Americans feel like this is New Jersey." Meanwhile, the NY Post says other cast members are fed up with Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino's massive ego, and hopes he leaves the show. But what about Snooki? She got her own Gray Lady profile over the weekend!

Yes, even Cathy Horyn (who took down Christina Hendricks earlier this year) penned an epic profile of the show's Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi for the NY Times. Totally unnecessary! And unnecessarily mean—in fact, sites like Jezebel and Salon are calling the piece vicious and condescending. Indeed—Horyn even calls the brawl-loving guidette: "busty and short-waisted with small legs; sort of like a turnip turned on its tip."

At the end of her string of backhanded compliments and harsh criticisms, Horyn tries to liken the Jersey starlet to actress Elizabeth Taylor, saying, "I have this funny theory that [Snooki's] a little like Elizabeth Taylor. The reason she makes me think of Elizabeth Taylor—quite apart from the unbridgeable divide of talent and beauty—is that photographs of Ms. Taylor in the 1960s confirm a short, busty woman with high hair, big jewelry, garish taste in clothes and a complete indifference to the cyclonic effect that all that produced." Hmm, do you think she has a point?
