Now that Governor Cuomo has signed the historic legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in New York, it's time to get to the wedding planning! One group of New Yorkers (disclaimer: our own Jen Carlson is involved) are organizing a Pop Up Chapel in Central Park on July 30th, the first weekend after the bill becomes a law. From the website:

On Saturday, July 30th, the first weekend after same-sex marriage becomes legal, we will host New York City’s first pop-up chapel in Central Park (or a designated space, if interest outpaces capacity.)

We provide the wedding! And the photographer! And the officiant! And witnesses! And cupcakes! And music! And everything you’ve always dreamed of! A free and legal wedding... We will perform your wedding ceremony, sign your license, and process the paperwork.

After signing up (there will be a sign-up form on the website later this week), participants only need to show up with a marriage license, which can be applied for beginning July 5th—note that NYC requires a 24-hour waiting period after you get your license.

You can check the website, Facebook, and Twitter for regular updates on the event. Currently the group is looking for sponsors, musicians, helpers of any kind, and of course: couples.
