In the Day After Tomorrow, the NYPL's main branch was a safe haven. This weekend: not so much.

Were you planning on meeting up with your good looking boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal in the library during the storm? Well you can forget about it, honey, because the public libraries are shutting things down for the weekend.

Due to the anticipated severe weather conditions, all units of The New York Public Library (covering The Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island), The Brooklyn Public Library and the Queens Public Library will be closed on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28, 2011. It is expected that all locations will be open on Monday, August 29, but New Yorkers are encouraged to check nypl.org, brooklynpubliclibrary.org and queenslibrary.org for the most up to date information.

Let's hope this weekend is nothing like the movie anyway.

Other closures include the American Museum of Natural History, MoMA, all five Wildlife Conservation Society parks (Bronx Zoo, the New York Aquarium, the Central Park Zoo, the Queens Zoo and the Prospect Park Zoo), and pretty much everything. Call ahead if you have plans to go anywhere, which you already knew, because you're smart.
