2006_12_arts_tonycritics.jpgNew Yorkers rate their critics in this weeks Time Out New York issue. The somewhat figure skating like rating system was based on "K=Knowledge S=Style T=Taste A=Accessibility I=Influence AVG=Average score". Some of the winners:

• Sasha Frere-Jones took first place in music criticism for his work in the The New Yorker, the New York Times, the Village Voice and others. We like his blog, too.

• Jerry Saltz of the Village Voice took the gold in the art criticism category, his wife Roberta Smith took the silver.

• J. Hoberman of the Village Voice took the lead in the movie critics category.

You can read about them all, and get the list of winners in the other categories (books, dance, food, classical music and theater), here. Panelists included: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Chuck Close, Matthew Perpetua, Rob Tannenbaum and John Wyszniewski.

We think Nick Sylvester should have gotten an honorable mention for his book reviews and his music criticism - which can now be read here.
