Speaking of 1980s Times Square... have you ever heard of The Sharks? The new wave band from Lancaster, Pennsylvania existed from 1979 to 1992, and during that time they built up a pretty solid following, and eventually landed a contract with Elektra. Their first EP featured the single "Only Time Will Tell," the video for which was filmed in Times Square. You can check that out below (but we recommend the non-embeddable color version right here)—ice cream lady is the clear star.
Precious little information about this band has made it to the World Wide Web, but according to B Magazine, one of their songs "caught the ear of producer Billy Terrel," who asked them to record a cover of the Steve Miller Band's “Fly Like an Eagle” for the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl XV team—"this led to a guest spot on AM Philadelphia and playing at the well-known CBGB’s in New York City." They went on to get some video airplay on MTV, and share stages with Robert Palmer, Joan Jett, Flock of Seagulls, and the Go-Gos, amongst others.
