Two huge, gigantic developments in the Naomi Campbell maid-assault case. First, the Daily News has a much more detailed account of the incident, and reveals that the weapon was not in fact a cellphone:

Smiling for the cameras, Naomi Campbell glided along a sidewalk shortly after allegedly bashing a crystal-encrusted BlackBerry against the head of her housekeeper.

"You f------ b----!" the cantankerous catwalker shrieked yesterday inside her Park Ave. penthouse apartment, accusing her maid, Ana Scolavino, of stealing a pair of $200 Chip & Pepper jeans, sources said.

Raging, Campbell cracked the BlackBerry against her housekeeper's head at 8 a.m. - and then demanded her staff tell cops the 42-year-old maid had hurt herself falling, sources said.

Campbell had her people release a statement denying the whole thing:

The allegation that I hit or in any way injured my former housekeeper is completely untrue.

"From the time she began working for me about two and one half months ago, I began questioning her about items I found missing. This morning, when I finally fired her for that and her erratic behavior, she screamed, 'This is going to cost you a lot of money.'" After some more yelling and screaming on her part, she left the house. The next thing I knew, I got a call from the police. I have no idea how she was injured.

With her history of assault convictions, and a film crew from Oprah on the premises during the attack, this charge may be hard for her to refute. Stay tuned-- Campbell is facing 7 years in prison on the charges, but the judge allowed her back out on the streets without bail. She also got to keep her passport, and is leaving for South Africa for a charity appearance today.
