If it's the weekend before Halloween, then it's time for the huge Halloween extravaganza for dogs and humans who love seeing animals in clothes: The Great PUPkin in Fort Greene Park. (Check out some of the best costumes from last year's Great PUPkin above.)

This year's gathering of costumed canines is the 19th edition of the popular dog costume contest held by Fort Greene PUPS, a non-profit group made up of dog owners who regularly use the park.

If you're interested in entering with your best friend, on-site registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Fort Greene monument plaza; there's a suggested $5 donation per entrant. "All dogs must be registered to enter the contest," organizers say. This year's panel of judges is led by Public Advocate Tish James.

The Great PUPkin takes place Saturday, October 28, at 11:30 a.m. (Sunday, October 29 is the rain date) in Fort Greene Park.
