2004_10_augusten_large.jpgBeloved memoirist Augusten Burroughs will be giving a reading next Tuesday of his latest book, Magical Thinking, at Coliseum Books. And he's going to dish about the new film adaptation of Running with Scissors (Annette Bening will play his mom, Gabrielle Union his mother's girlfriend; Brian Cox is his mom's shrink and Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristin Chenoweth, and Evan Rachel Wood seem to be play his daughters). His last event, at Cooper Union, was totally packed in the steamy summer weather - so if you go, you might want to get there before 6:

Our favorite Augusten book is still Running with Scissors, which is hysterical, disturbing, and heartfelt. While superficially like David Sedaris (smart, gay, funny), Burroughs's harrowing personal experiences give his work a more intense shade. Gothamist wonders what the former advertising creative director would make of the ridiculous advertising-related tasks on The Apprentice - those candidates are stupid. And Toral, if you think you're going to appear on a reality show without humiliating yourself, you're dumber than our eraser.

A Gothamist Interview with Augusten Burroughs - he's seen Orville Redenbacher's penis!
