is a cozy Cajun restaurant on the end of Indian Row on East Sixth Street. The food is delicious and the owners, Mara and David are great. You can see Mara's Homemade featured on the Food Network's Roker on the Road, tonight at 9PM.
How long you graced New York with your presence?
Where did you grow up?
I was born in LA, moved to Dallas when I was 12, moved back to LA after 25 years and now here in New York.
What was the inspiration to start Mara's Homemade? There wasn't many restaurants that were moderately-priced and unpretentious. I wanted a place for homemade cooking, and I love to cook for friends.
What do you love about LA?
What do you love about NYC?
Everything but the weather. What I love is the fact that you can do anything at anytime.
If you could party with anyone back in the disco era, who would it be?
Chicago or Earth, Wind and Fire.
What's your favorite place to shop for food?
What makes your mouth water?
Chocolate and Mexican food. I love the Chicken Flautas from Zarela's in Midtown.
If you could have dinner with three famous New Yorkers, who would they be?
Ed Koch, Nathan Lane and Hillary Clinton.
Mara's Homemade is located at 342 East 6th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues. It's closed on Tuesday, but has a fantastic weekend brunch menu.
