If Macy's is going to be inflating dozens of balloons tonight on the Upper West Side, then tomorrow must be the 86th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Parade! The parade starts at 9 a.m., and here's a map of the new route for this year:
Last year, after heading down Central Park West and across Central Park South, the parade went down 7th Avenue, then across 42nd Street to 6th Avenue, finally heading towards Herald Square—and Macy's flagship—across 34th street. However, this year the parade does not travel on 7th Avenue or 42nd Street at all: It goes down Central Park West, across Central Park South, down 6th Avenue, and then across 34th Street to Macy's. (You can blame pedestrian plazas.)
Macy's says that 8,000 participants will take part in the parade, which will feature ""16 giant character balloons; 40 novelty/ornament balloons, balloonicles, balloonheads and trycaloons; 28 floats; 1,600 cheerleaders and dancers; 900 clowns; 11 marching bands; a host of celebrity performers, and the one-and-only Santa Claus." And those celebrity performers include The Wanted, Chris Isaak and Carly Rae Jepsen! Plus, the U.S. women's Olympic gold medal-winning gymnastics team will be there—will McKayla be impressed?
