It was another "Murderer's Row" line-up of comedians at the Comedy Cellar on Tuesday night, where Louis CK, Pete Holmes, Aziz Ansari, Jon Stewart, Amy Schumer and Madonna took the stage. Heard of her? Some Michigan girl with dreams of making it in the NYC comedy scene.
Schumer Instagrammed a photo, saying, "We'd like to thank [Comedy Cellar] for taking a chance on our new act." And Madonna followed up with her own: "And the next minute i was tagging along with [Amy Schumer] 😂😂😂 Making my stand up debut! What a thrill. Finally busted my cherry🍒🍒🍒thank you Amy!"
Schumer is working out material for her next comedy special, according to the NY Post, who reported that she was at the Comic Strip on Monday night this week where she did a surprise set. They also noted, "Larry David was in the audience, and [she] tried to coax him to join her onstage, but he stayed in his seat."
The Comedy Cellar shared Madonna's photo, with the caption: "$12 cover. 2 item minimum. Tuesday." Comedian Sean Donnelly hosted the evening, listing off the lineup and noting: "It was bat sh*t!"
In January, a "a billion dollars worth of comedians" appeared at the legendary Greenwich Village venue, including Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Aziz Ansari, and Dave Chappelle. As there are strict rules against filming in comedy clubs (comedians are usually working out material), no videos have surfaced of that one, either.
Schumer and Madonna have been friends ever since the singer asked her to be the opening act on her 2015 tour. The only question is whether Netflix will give Madonna a deal for a comedy special.
