Just in case you've left a little space in your weekend for some literary-minded events (and we're sure you have), make it a priority to stop by the 18th Annual Independent and Small Press Book Fair, a totally free event that's happening all weekend, on Saturday, December 3rd (10am to 6pm) and Sunday, December 4th (11am to 5pm) at the Small Press Center, located in The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen building at 20 West 44th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues) in Manhattan.
The fair's panels and speakers are literally too numerous to mention, with over 25 events over the two days, but some highlights that jumped out at us are Saturday's Politics of Culture with 2005 Public Advocate candidate and civil liberties lawyer Norman Siegel, and at 5PM, the ever-present topic of blogging, Is Blogging Dead? I don't know, guys, is it?
On Sunday, the panels and interviews branch out a little, with one about FOUND Magazine and another about everyone's favorite indy pasttime, zines!
All in all, the event sounds like a wonderful way to cram some more culture into your weekend and, of course, they're selling books! So, fill the brain, fill Santa's giftbag, all for free admission. It makes us sort of wish we weren't going to the Bahamas this weekend. Oh, wait... Well, there's always next year! Let us know what you thought, if you do attend the Small Press Book Fair.
