It's soggy outside but it's cozy at the bookstores and bars this week. Tonight (6/16), Australian writer Peter Carey is reading from his latest book, Theft: A Love Story, at 192 Books at 7PM. Or, head down to the always cozy Half King tonight for the Spring 2006 edition of The Literary Review, where Lynne Tillman, Craig Mueller, and Cary Goldstein will be reading from their selections in the journal. It starts at 7PM and is free.

Tomorrow night (6/17), 826NYC is teaming up with FOUND Magazine for a reading at Mo Pitkin's in Alphabet City. They promise that "Davy reads the most startling brand-new finds to land at FOUND HQ, while Peter's brand-new songs based on FOUND stuff will blow your mind and nip at your soul. You will be dazzled! You will be stunned! Plus, special guest DJ Potato Head will be shot from a cannon!" To be dazzled and stunned, show up at 9:30PM - the cover is $10 and proceeds benefit students at 826NYC.

Also that night, head over to Happy Ending Lounge for Rachel Kramer Bussel's monthly erotic reading series, In the Flesh, which starts at 8PM. This month's reading features Sofia Quintero, Emily Scarlet Kramer of CAKE, Leora Skolkin-Smith, Polly Frost, Charie Anders and Ron Bass. Free refreshments will be served - and you might need a tall drink of water, these readings are hot!

Thursday night (6/18) finds us back at 192 Books for Benjamin Kunkel's reading from his hugely successful Indecision, to celebrate the paperback release of the book. That also starts at 7PM.

And although the National Arts Club website's event calendar seems a little lacking, New York Magazine assures us that the 10th Anniversary of Five Points is being celebrated there on Friday, 6/19, at 7:30PM. Ann Beattie, David Bottoms, Pam Durban, Edward Hirsch, and Alice Hoffman are apparently slated to read. But feel free to call the Arts Club at (212)475-3424 for more information.
