Hoo boy, is it the middle of August already? The past few months have been so suspiciously devoid of blinding heat and governmental sex scandals, we haven't even had time to complain about nearly choking to death while waiting for a broken-down L train. Ah, well. Regardless, tomorrow marks the last installment of this summer's Summer Streets, so now's as good a time as ever to dust off your old Rollerblades and skate free, so free, free like the wind.
For the uninitiated, note that from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow, New Yorkers are gifted with seven car-free street miles, complete with rest stops and activities like "emotional" mini-golf and stage performances. This is also your last chance to wander through the Park Avenue Tunnel, where Norwegian artist Jana Winderen has installed an "immersive sound installation" featuring soothing underwater sounds from around the world.
Summer Streets runs down Park Avenue and Lafayette Street, starting at East 72nd and ending at Chambers; you can find more information on the Department of Transportation's website. Street now, or forever hold your peace (until next summer).
