The Parks Department asked over Twitter today: "How cute are these newborn Patagonian cavies at the Staten Island Zoo?" We then asked Google: "What are Patagonian cavies?" And the answer is... "a relatively large rodent." But they are cute! Just look at these newborn giant rodents—the brother and sister are called Cael and Caela:
Patagonian cavies are in the Mara family, along with the likes of guinea pigs, and Maras are the fourth-largest rodent in the world. Still, we'd prefer replacing the city's rat population with these giants.
