In early May, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the state was looking for submissions for a "Wear A Mask" public service announcement campaign. Over 600 submissions–which Rachel Maddow called "really, really, really New York"— came in, and nearly 200,000 New Yorkers voted for their favorite. At Tuesday's briefing, Cuomo and his daughter Mariah announced the winner.
While the “We Love NY” PSA by Bunny Lake Films (from directors Celine Danhier and Aliya Naumoff) received the most votes and became the official winner, the state will actually run two ads. "You Can Still Smile" by Blue Slate Films/Natalia Bougadellis came in second, just around 500 votes behind first place.
(Personal opinion: we could have used a 3rd, specifically one from David Lynch, similar to the 1990s PSA he created around the city's litter and rat problem.)
You can watch both of the PSAs that will air below.
