Outdoor summer movie season is here, and while all venues haven't started their screenings yet, plenty have fired up the projectors. Below, all of the movies you can see outdoors FOR FREE this week.


Coney Island Flicks on the Beach (website)

Monday, July 7th, 7:30 p.m.: see Frozen on the beach.

Notes: The movie is screened on a giant 40-foot inflatable screen on the beach at West 10th Street. BYO-picnic... and get ready for some sing-a-longs.

Bryant Park (website)

Monday, July 7th, lawn opens at 5p.m., movie at sundown: Blazing Saddles will screen on the Bryant Park lawn.

Notes: Get there early for a good spot, this place gets crowded! Blankets are allowed, as is your own food and drink, but vendors will also be available if you want to purchase something (still no alcohol though!).


FAB Flicks (website)

Tuesday, July 8th, 8 p.m.: Bustin' Loose will screen in the Putnam Triangle Plaza (at Fulton and Grand).


Summerscreen (website)

Wednesday, July 9th, sundown: Back to the Future kicks off Summerscreen in McCarren Park.

Notes: there will be food carts, live music after doors open around 6 p.m., and even free Wi-Fi. BYO-blankets and hoverboards.

Pier I Picture Show (website)

Wednesday, July 9th, sundown: Clueless starts the summer screenings on the Hudson.

Notes: BYO-picnic and step-brother.

Wednesday, July 9th, film at sundown: La Pirogue.

Notes: Get there by 7 p.m. for performances (not by Pussy Riot). This is a grass and blanket seating situation.

Notes: Bring a blanket and a picnic, and try not to get distracted by the view of the Manhattan skyline, directly behind the giant screen.

Summer Movie Series on the Intrepid (website)

Thursday, July 10th, film at sundown: Independence Day on the m*therf*ckin' INTREPID

Notes: Bring something soft to sit on (you can even bring lawn chairs), and BYO-picnic foods.

Friday, July 11th, 8:30 p.m.: The Moustache at Riverside Park's Pier I

Friday, July 11th, 8:30 p.m.: A collection of short films will screen, with the theme being "Broken Hearted: Twisted Romantic Short Films." Films include the directorial debut of Rose McGowan, Dawn.

Notes: Hit up the nearby Shake Shack before heading over.

Saturday, July 12th, 8 p.m.: I Am Legend (which even includes scenes filmed by where you'll be watching it).
