Hayes Peebles is a 14 year old New York singer/songwriter. Along with his guitar, he carries with him the perfect amount of experience and innocence - giving his listeners a little of both through his songs. This week he'll be opening up our 11th Movable Hype show, give a listen: Gone Grey.mp3
When and why did you start writing songs?
I started writing songs December 2005. I started writing original pieces because I had played a Hurricane Katrina benefit playing all covers and felt that I wanted to expand what I was doing musically.
Where/when was your first show?
My first legitimate show was at the Rockwood Music Hall, June of 2006. I played about 5 guitar originals and covers of Thelonious Monk, Ben Kweller and The Honorary Title on piano. The crowd was essentially just family and friends.
Where do you find inspiration for your songwriting?
I look for it everywhere, in people, places and things. Usually I just feel when it's the right time to write, and all my thoughts up to that point get compiled into my music.
What is your first conscious memory of living in New York?
My first conscious memory would have to be running around the apartment, hiding, playing with my sister and going to "Daffy's" with my Polish babysitter during the day.
Now its time for some fill-in-the-blank action
You know you've made it when...?
