[UPDATE BELOW] Yesterday a reader spotted this bird (a red-tailed hawk?) on Maujer Street, at the corner of Graham Avenue in East Williamsburg. There have been a lot of hawk sightings over the past year—and they're not even afraid to swoop in to an East Village joint to steal your BBQ chicken—which makes us wonder if we're headed towards a real BIRDEMIC!

UPDATE: Rob of the City Birder tells us, "The hawk in the photo is not a Red-tailed Hawk, but a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk. It is very unusual to see one in NYC at this time of year, even more odd to see it perched on a parked car." He suspects there was something wrong with the bird, and we're currently trying to find out if anyone who saw it contacted 311 or a wildlife rehabilitator.
