One of the best places to wander around, the Hall of Ocean Life at the American Museum of Natural History reopens after an extensive renovation this Saturday! The hall is now a "fully immersive marine environment with high-definition video projections, interactive computer stations, hands-on models, 14 renovated classic dioramas, and eight new ocean ecosystem displays."

The Times discusses the history of the hall and the two year renovation, including how the whale now has a belly button: "She doesn't have a ring in her navel," Dr. Melanie L. J. Stiassny, the exhibition's lead curator, pointed out on a preopening tour. "But I suppose it's only a matter of time."

Again, this and the Tiger Exhibit at the Bronx Zoo definitely say "Gothamist Field Trip." Sign up in comments.
