There are a ton of shows we want to catch this week, most of them fall on Tuesday night - so we'll be consulting the magic 8 ball and various street psychics on what show to go to. Let's get to it, shall we?

Part Chimp is at Cake Shop tonight, we hear they are big in London right now. Which means they'll be big here sooner or later, and we like that they almost did but didn't use "monkey" in their name, which would have made "monkey" the new "wolf". And who needs that.

Stellastarr* is everywhere this week. Tonight catch them at Bowery Ballroom with Mobius Band and tomorrow night with Editors and Mobius Band at Warsaw. We'll be catching them tonight, and missing Editors AGAIN (we missed them 3 times at SXSW), because there is just way too much to do tomorrow night.

2006_03_artsDestroyer.jpgDan Bejar, that's Destroyer - to you, will be at Avalon Tuesday night. Destroyer is amazing - in a magical, mystical, enigmatic sort of way that you can only understand part of the time, we suggest you go to this show. However, if you were more "punk" than "hippie" in high school, you may want to check out the New York Dolls at CBGB's Tuesday night. We couldn't imagine a more fitting venue for this band.

Austinites and indie poppers, What Made Milwaukee Famous, will be playing Pianos Tuesday night. We caught these guys at SXSW and enjoyed their set. They'll also be playing Mercury Lounge Wednesday night, so you have no excuse to miss them.

Thursday...Editors are back! This time at Webster Hall and minus Stellastarr*, but plus the Big Sleep. That's a little indie rock arithmetic for you. However, if you want to skip that blockbuster event...we suggest you head to Mercury Lounge for I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness. We originally liked this band because of their name (yes, we judge books by covers), but it turns out we really love their doom and gloom take on the pop sound.

2006_03_artsnineblackalps.jpgNine Black Alps and Benzos are at Bowery Ballroom on Friday night. When did Nine Black Alps get so big? We remember when they were playing Merc. Next thing you know they're going to be going to college, moving out of our house, getting married, having least we'll have the memories.

Friday night Spinto Band plays Mercury Lounge, hopefully they'll play that song "Oh Mandy" since that's probably what every ticket holder paid for. If not, at least they'll be joined by Human Television, a band we've been meaning to check out lately - we've heard good things, so maybe we'll hear it for ourselves this week. They play at Cake Shop the next night, with Gothamist faves the Burnside Project.

The Presets are back on Saturday at Sin-e, don't miss their dancey electro-pop...but if you must miss it, it better be to see the band with the 2nd best name in the world, They Shoot Horses Don't They? will be playing Tonic that same night. This band also has an electro-pop sound, but more harsh and less dancey - not what you would expect from a band named after a Jane Fonda movie. We think that's what the kids call "irony".

While you pick and choose your shows carefully, give the following a listen:
