George Clinton, the indefatigable musician and leader of Parliament-Funkadelic, has been performing live for more than five decades. Today, the funk icon announced that he'd be embarking on his final tour this year, called One Nation Under a Groove, a reference to Funkadelic's landmark 1978 album. “This has been coming a long time,” Clinton said in a statement. “Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years has noticed that I’ve been out front less and less.”

Update: Clinton, who is 78, will be on the road with Parliament-Funkadelic for several months for the extensive farewell tour, first in Australia, then Japan, and North America. Luckily, one these final Parliament-Funkadelic dates will happen here in New York, at Summerstage in Central Park on June 4th. Tickets have yet to be announced for this show.

This is the first show that's been announced for Central Park's 2019 summer season, as Brooklyn Vegan notes. Summerstage has been undergoing renovations, and starting this year, there will be more bathrooms, ADA access throughout the venue, and new concession areas, among other changes.

Clinton has continued touring and releasing music over the last couple of years, most recently Medicaid Fraud Dogg with Parliament, released in 2018. In addition to being a musical maestro, he's also the author of an incredibly illuminating Reddit AMA.
