Have you ever thought, "Where can I watch wrestling against the backdrop of super-kinetic accordion playing, choreographed dancers and awesome lighting?" Well, Lincoln Center Out of Doors has the answer, with Finnish artist Kimmo Pohjonen's dazzling, Accordion Wrestling.
The piece is a revival of an early 1900s Finnish wrestling tradition, when accordionists accompanied wrestling matches. In the performance, "Pohjonen performs while grapplers struggle on a custom-made mat embedded with microphones. His work, with choreography by Ari Numminen, comments on Cold War and gender politics while lending a modern artistic twist to a classic Olympic competition." Check out this video:
