Remember earlier this year when Australian billionaire Clive Palmer announced he was going to build the Titanic II and we all laughed because really? Uhm, guys? He was serious. And he'll be unveiling the design for the new boat here in New York on the Intrepid this December. Also, because there isn't enough tragedy connected to the original unsinkable ship, he says that Caroline Kennedy will be on hand for the unveiling.
Not weird enough for you? The December 4 gala gets better: Palmer is planning on serving up yet another recreation of the last meal served on the original Titanic to his fancy guests on the Intrepid (he expects "his sister Jean Kennedy Smith and New York Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson along with leading US business leaders"). Still, Palmer has big things to tell the world! "Since we announced our plan in April we've had a huge amount of interest, particularly from people wanting to know how they can secure a booking for the maiden voyage, along with commercial sponsors." And soon, all will be revealed.
The Titanic II, which is being built in China with the same dimensions as the original, is scheduled to sail to Southampton in 2016 for its first voyage, once again going to New York. What could possibly go wrong?
