Can't get tickets to what is probably the hottest show on Broadway right now? Don't worry about it! Book of Mormon, Trey Parker and Matt Stone's Broadway hit that has somehow managed to rise above its scandal-baiting plot, is heading to the big screen...eventually.
Parker and Stone told Entertainment Weekly that they do indeed plan to take their award-winning musical, which follows a pair of Mormon missionaries through a series of Uganda-set misadventures, to the silver screen. Just as soon as it's done selling out shows across the country, of course! “Hopefully it will have a big run and a big tour and then we can do the movie in several years,” says Parker. “We want to do it some day,” echoed Stone.
When the duo does decide to bring their Mormon missionaries to Hollywood, they'll have some film cred to back it up: the pair have worked together on the cult classic Cannibal! The Musical, the gleefully gonzo Orgazmo, South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut, and the modern-day puppet masterpiece Team America: World Police. We can only hope that Parker and Stone won't go soft and shoot for a PG-13 to bolster ticket sales—stay true to your R-rated roots, boys!
Here's a look at what to expect when Book does eventually make it to film:
