Ain't no party like a funeral party! How else can we react to the news that TLC is about to air a special (that can then go to series) about the most colorful funeral home you've ever seen. Oblivious pregnant ladies are so passe, the new hotness is clearly crazy funerals!
Over the years
The Learning Channel TLC has become quite adept at spinning off shows—massive success came when they turned a special on a couple with a pair of twins and a set of sextuplets into Jon and Kate Plus 8 (it later lost Jon) and who can forget Toddlers and Tiaras spinoff sensation Honey Boo Boo. And since we all already know where Honey Boo Boo's story is headed, it looks like TLC is preparing the ultimate reality TV crossover with this latest show—which is, naturally, called Best Funeral Ever.
Set at the Dallas-based Golden Gate Funeral Home, Best Funeral Ever follows funeral director John Beckwith, Jr. as he "works with the families to create a central theme for a memorial and then throws a wild party." And seriously, these parties look wild. Some examples of what they can do to make your trip to the afterlife really special include: Christmas-themed funerals (reindeer, elves, snow!), BBQ-themed funerals (live pigs, BBQ sauce fountain, ceremonial ribs to dip), boxing-themed funerals (see above), and disco-themed funerals (smoke! DJ's! Dancers!) Suddenly I feel super guilty that all I did when my parents died was try and bring their family and friends together to, y'know, tell stories about them, sing songs and laugh a little. What was I thinking when these guys are out there promising that "if they want to jump out of airplanes, Golden Gate can make that happen"? Airborne funerals are obviously the new Viking funerals!
Trust us, you want to go watch the clip on EW's site. And then if you need more of these charming people (who are clearly going to go to series) you need look no further than this little infomercial they made earlier this year:
