Remember last month, when the New York Aquarium got itself a fancy new electric eel, and they didn't know what to call it? We suggested several electric possibilities (Con Eddie, anyone?), but apparently the Aquarium didn't feel the same way, because they ended up going with something else entirely: Wattson.
Admittedly, it's kind of cute. Aquarium officials say they received over 1,500 submissions, ranging from Tra-volt-a to Sparky, before ultimately settling on the pun-ny winner. “We want to thank everyone who participated in our eel-naming contest. We received so many creative suggestions, it was a challenge to choose a winner,” said Jon Forrest Dohlin, Director of the Aquarium. “It was amazing to see how many New Yorkers wanted to help us decide what to call this electrifying marine creature.”
Wattson is on view in the Explore the Shore exhibit, where he catches his unsuspecting prey by stunning them with a 650-volt electric shock.
