The much-hyped murder-mystery Gone Girl (maybe you read the book?) will open the 52nd annual New York Film Festival, which kicks off on September 26th this year. (You can secure your spots right here.)

Author Gillian Flynn also wrote the screenplay for the film, which is directed by David Fincher, and stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, and Tyler Perry.

According to Variety, the opening night gala "is now an important stop in the awards season race. Fincher previously opened the NYFF with 2010′s The Social Network, which went on to win three Oscars (it was nominated for eight). Last year’s selection, Captain Phillips, landed a best picture Oscar nod." For the completist, here's a list of every opening night film in the festival's history:
