Between The Avengers opening and the new trailers for the upcoming Batman and Spider-Man summer flicks, this has shaped up to be a big week for comic book fans. Something that surely has pleased the organizers of the annual Free Comic Book Day, which has been running on the first Saturday in May since 2002.

As usual there are a whole slew of comics planned for the giveaway at participating shops, with titles ranging from The Avengers to Buffy to Transformers with a whole lot in-between. You can check out the full list of titles available here. And it isn't just about free comics. There will also be creator signings at some local shops, including Brooklyn Comics and More and Manhattan Comics and More.

If you haven't read a comic book in ages—or have moved on to reading them on your computer or tablet—this is a pretty good excuse to get back in the habit.
