The weekly author of this post has fled for Las Vegas leaving us only with a trail of mumbled words. Something about two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers...Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. That's actually just a quote from a book/movie, [CONTEST ALERT] if you know what one AND you want to go to an exclusive Playboy party this Saturday the 19th then email me. The first person to correctly answer will win two tickets to the party, which is being held to celebrate Playboy's latest cd. UPDATE: we have a winner. Seriously, you can stop emailing now.
On to the music. You'll have to deal without the witty commentary from Ben and since we were out celebrating our 2nd birthday until the sun rose sentences are a bit difficult right now. Brevity is our friend this afternoon and here's what we suggest:
There are a few good shows around town tonight. First off the Music and Kasabian are at Irving Plaza, with the official afterparty at Atomique. Meanwhile over at Mercury Lounge Lansing-Dreiden and The Occasion are playing. Personally we'd see the latter show only because we're intrigued by Lansing-Dreiden. However we've recently listened to the Kasabian cd and are quite impressed, as we said - tough decision tonight. It's likely all we'll hear is whatever band is selling out on the OC this week.

Friday The Upwelling, Bishop Allen (pictured), Robbers on High Street, The Head Set, God Or Julie are at Mercury Lounge. This is an amazing line-up and Gothamist loves it some Bishop Allen [read: please play the next Movable Hype show!]
Also Friday at Sin-e is Die Romantik featuring The Pierces, Au Revoir Simone, Mynah and Andrea Gillis.
Saturday The Domestics, Death of Fashion, Morning Theft, Mike Beck are at Luna Lounge. Morning Theft is a great rock band so try to catch them at their last Luna Lounge performance (damn high rise condos!)
Saturday Yoko Ono & Sean Lennon do their part to save Tonic and Monday Devendra Banhart steps in to lend a helping hand. Go to both and SAVE TONIC!
Sunday, and for some reason (wethinks the dress code) this isn't sold out yet, Bloc Party plays the Motherfucker party.
That's it for now kids. We'll be back early next week to give you a more thorough rundown of shows, but for now it's nap time...
