The Brooklyn Flea isn't taking the chilly season off, but they are moving things indoors. Co-founder Jonathan Butler (pictured to the right of Eric Demby) told us that the space will be smaller than the outdoor Flea in Fort Greene, with about 30 vendors housed inside. The winter months will be held in a usually empty space at 76 Front Street in DUMBO, which we went over to check out for ourselves.
Butler notes the pop-up Flea will be easier to access for some, but while "people have suggested we do something in Manhattan...DUMBO's about as close as I can get without turning into a pumpkin." When asked why he didn't keep the Flea outdoors, like the holiday markets in Bryant Park and Union Square, he told us "it's cold!" Indeed.
Look for the warm n' cozy indoor Flea to open January 10th (they have the Gifted market up for holiday shopping this month), and to run Saturdays and Sundays through March 29th; hours will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The outdoor Flea will be back in Fort Greene starting the first weekend in April.
