2004_10_artswicked2.jpgThe folks uptown at Broadway's WICKED are painting the town green for their one year anniversary. Starting on Monday and going all week long, they have a busy schedule of events planned all over the city.

The events will include a "WICKED Day" Block Party; the Z100 "Be WICKED" Singing Contest; a special WICKED Night at Barnes & Noble-Union Square and participation in this year's annual Greenwich Village Halloween Parade.

Barnes & Noble-Union Square (33 East 17th Street) kicks things off on Monday evening, October 25th at 7PM. There's no rest for the wicked, as cast members spend their night off performing songs from the show. Also, best-selling author Gregory Maguire, author of the book which inspired the musical, will give a reading at the event.

If you can get a groove on musically, check out the Z100 "Be WICKED" Singing Contest, featuring singing competitions at different Stew Leonard locations in the tri-state area. Finalists from each event will be selected for participation in finals to be judged by Wicked director Joe Mantello, casting director Bernie Telsey and some of the show's stars.

Halloween weekend brings the "WICKED Day" Block Party on Saturday, October 30th. Head to the Gershwin Theatre(West 51st Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue) from 10AM to 1PM for face-painting, games, food and refreshments, and the finals of the "Be WICKED" Singing Contest. The real question is - will they have enough paint to paint everyone's faces totally green?

A full week of WICKED ends on Halloween night, when some of the show's stars can be found as special guests of The Greenwich Village Halloween Parade. Thank goodness they're off on Mondays, as they're really gonna need it come Monday the 1st!
