Benedict Cumberbatch has already won a legion of Cumberbitches as Sherlock Holmes and elevated a sort of second-tier Marvel Comics superhero to box office A-list. So maybe it was too much to hope for him to have a killer Saturday Night Live.

The best sketches were about himself, his characters, and dedicated fans—in a game show called "Why Is Benedict Cumberbatch Hot?" the contestants, himself included, had to answer that question. Cumberbatch declared that he looks like a lizard man and Sid the Sloth from Ice Age. "Wow, so striking and charming" and humble.

The other standout sketch was a digital short called "Office Hours," which had Cumberbatch as a professor and Pete Davidson playing an easy-going stoner student he's become attached to.

The rest of the time, SNL had Cumberbatch take on the roles of stripper (and get his freak on with a the corpse of a grandmother); non-conformist (when it comes to toilets); and a criminal mastermind. Click through to see the sketches, including The Church Lady's return to Weekend Update.

There were a lot of appearances by the 2016 World Series champion Chicago Cubs—David Ross, Anthony Rizzo, Dexter Fowler. and honorary Cub Bill Murray. You'd think they hadn't won a World Series in 108 years or something.

Solange was the musical guest, who killed it, though she claimed to see some flaws:

The November 12 host is Dave Chappelle, fresh off his backhanded Clinton endorsement, and the musical guest is A Tribe Called Quest.
