In 2008, singing photographer and NYC treasure Arlene Gottfried—native Brooklynite and sister of Gilbert—published her iconic black & white photos from 1970s and 1980s New York in a book titled, Sometimes Overwhelming. Today, an exhibit of the same name opens at Daniel Cooney Fine Art on 26th Street. In the past, Gottfried's been called "a quiet defender of the grimily vibrant denizens of an older New York that’s disappearing daily."

Her photos are from all over NYC, from beaches to nightclubs and from Coney Island to Harlem—and her 30 photographs on display will include shots from all over.

The exhibit will remain on display through December 20th. [via Vanishing NY]
