[Update: The event is now sold out!] Gothamist's first ever trivia night goes down in less than a week on October 2nd and we are PUMPED! We'll be taking over the Bell House next Wednesday with our friends at TrivWorks to dish out some exciting NYC trivia. We still have a few tickets available We're excited to report that the event is sold out!

Need more incentive than bragging rights among fellow Gothamist readers? Expect some very special surprise guests with important ties to the Gothamist community. We've also got some sick prizes for our overall trivia winners, as well as runner up prizes for 2nd and 3rd place teams.

Our friends at BBC America put together a dope prize package with DVDs, t-shirts and even a lamp from cult favorite TV show Doctor Who. We've also got passes to the CBGB Festival, bowling nights at the city's best venues, delicious treats from Fairway Market, drinks at some fancy restaurants, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? prize packages and much more to be announced at the event!

We've also got an incredibly fitting reward for our Grand Prize: everyone on the 1st Place team wins a year long membership to NYC's fantastic Citi Bike bike share program, with second and third place teams scoring week-long and day-long passes, respectively. Your blue chariots await you!

Below, some handy FAQs from TrivWorks about what to expect at the Gothamist Know Your City trivia night:


  • What time does it start/end? Doors are at 7:30 p.m., with an 8 p.m. event start. We aim to wrap up between 9:30 - 10 p.m.

  • Am I guaranteed a seat? Please note, The Bell House is a mixed seating/standing venue. As such, we encourage you to arrive early for best seating options (we will also be piping in the audio into the Front Lounge).

  • Are tickets still available?No. As of Monday, September 30th the event is sold out. We may be releasing a few extra tickets in the next day—stay tuned!

  • What is the format of the evening? We will be announcing multiple rounds of trivia questions to the entire room, with each round having a specific NYC theme.

  • Do I need to be part of a team, or can I play alone? This is intended as a team trivia contest, so please arrive with your team. However, if you are planning to attend on your own, Gothamist staff will gladly help you find a team.

  • How many people can be on a team? Is there a minimum-person team size? To keep the event as fair as possible, we are limiting team sizes to 8 people. There's no minimum, however, to help make the event run as smoothly and efficiently as possible, we ask that smaller teams to join forces to make larger teams.

  • Do we need a team name? Yes! You will be required to submit your team name immediately upon arrival, so please give it some thought in advance (funny/timely team names strongly encouraged).

  • Is cheating allowed? No. Come on!

  • How can I prepare? Easy! Review our handy Gothamist trivia night study guide!

  • Will there be food? Yes! Brooklyn's own Daly Pie will be on hand selling their delicious hand pies - the perfect trivia treat, you'll love them!
