Amy Schumer is heading to the Great White Way: The comedian will make her Broadway debut in Meteor Shower, a new comedy by Steve Martin that opens in November.
Also starring in the play are Keegan-Michael Key (currently in the Public Theater's production of Hamlet; "Luther"); Tony winner Laura Benanti (beloved Broadway star and part-time Melania); and Alan Tudyk, the voice behind Heihei:
A press release describes Meteor Shower thus: "It’s a hot night in Ojai, California, and Corky (Schumer) and her husband Norm (Tudyk) are having another couple over for dinner. Laura (Benanti) and Gerald (Key), though, aren't looking for a casual evening of polite small talk with new friends. Eventually, the two couples find themselves in a marital free-fall matched in velocity and peril only by the smoldering space rocks tearing through the sky."
The play premiered in San Diego last year; the LA Times savaged it but Variety called a subsequent New Haven production a "loopy satire of marriage, sex and the inner id" in a more positive assessment.
Martin recently tried his hand at Broadway with the musical Bright Star.
Meteor Shower, which is directed by Tony winner Jerry Zaks, will begin previews Wednesday, November 1 and open on November 27.
