Yesterday, just like we did two years ago, we requested that Free Fall Outdoor Movies exist. You know, like the Free Summer Outdoor Movies, but with more tolerable weather. Where you replace your beach towel with a Pendleton blanket. Your bottle of white with a bottle of red. Your boyfriend's t-shirt and bindle with a flannel and cable knit sweater.

We were ready to bury our dream under a pile of fallen leaves, but then someone from the Parks Department emailed us saying they too wanted Free Fall Outdoor Movies. And then, magically, they appeared. Thank you Parks Department!

The movies will screen in Brooklyn, and a rep for the department tells us, "It's the first one we've done... it is very Halloween themed, there are definitely some good films in the lineup." Indeed.

  • October 2nd: Friday Night at McCarren Park (Lawn South of the Field House, Lorimer & Driggs Sts.)
  • October 3rd: Vampire in Brooklyn at St. John’s Park (Plaza behind Rec. Center, Prospect Pl.)
  • October 9th: Shaun of the Dead at Sunset Park (5th Ave between 41st & 44th Sts.)
  • October 10th: Buffy the Vampire Slayer at Dyker Beach Park (14th Ave between 86th St. & Benson Ave)
  • October 16th: Young Frankenstein at Brooklyn War Memorial (Base of the Monument, 195 Cadman Plaza W. Dr.)
  • October 17th: The Addams Family at Kaiser Park (Neptune and Bay Aves)
  • October 23rd: Killer Clowns from Outer Space at Owl’s Head Park (Colonial Rd. & 86th St.)
  • October 24th: Little Shop of Horrors at Fort Greene Park (Myrtle & N. Portland Aves)
  • October 30th: The Rocky Horror Picture Show at McCarren Pool Deck (Bayard St. & Driggs Ave)

    These are all free, you're encouraged to attend in costume, and movies begin at dusk, though you'll probably want to get there an hour before for games and prizes. For more information visit nyc.gov/parks and search "MONSTER MASH-UPS."
