This Saturday, September 21, Pope.L and Public Art Fund will take over the streets of Downtown Manhattan with Conquest, the artist’s most ambitious performance to date. A group of some 140 strangers — selected by the artist to represent the diversity of New York City — will crawl over five hours in a relay from the West Village to Union Square Park. Participants will band together to experience the struggle and vulnerability of giving up their physical privilege. Conquest continues the satirical tradition of Pope.L’s 40+ years of performances, and participants and spectators alike will have the opportunity to discover the power and contradiction of collective expression.
Join Pope.L, Public Art Fund, and 140 members of the New York City community who are giving up their verticality to participate in this evocative performance on Saturday.
