Knicks' Trade of Zach Randolph Hits A Snag

Knicks' Trade of Zach Randolph Hits A Snag

2008_11_cuttino.jpgIt wouldn’t be the Knicks if they didn’t add some drama to everything. Friday’s trade of Zach Randolph to the Clippers for Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas has hit a snag. The Knicks are sending Cuttino Mobley for more tests on his heart after his initial physical raised concerns. The teams have until 6:30pm today to finalize the trade or all the players will return to their original teams. Would the Knicks really void a trade that saves them money and puts them in position to go after LeBron James? It seems highly unlikely; instead this is probably an attempt to wrangle a draft pick from the Clippers. more ›

The Knicks Pave Way to 2010 and King James

The Knicks Pave Way to 2010 and King James

All along it has been clear that Donnie Walsh is positioning the Knicks for a run at LeBron James after the 2010 season and Friday he made his boldest move towards that goal yet. The Knicks are sending Jamal Crawford to Golden State for Al Harrington. Crawford is the better player, but with a contract that runs through the 2011 season, his contract is a problem. Harrington is currently hurt and adds another forward to the mix, but his contract expires at the right time (after 2009-2010) for the Knicks to make a run at LeBron. And, the Knicks might not be done, as there are multiple reports that Zach Randolph could be headed out of town as well. Trading his two highest scorers on the same day would be a bold move for Donnie Walsh, but for Knicks’ fans who have waited years for a coherent plan to come out of MSG it is worth it. UPDATE: In addition to sending Crawford to Golden State, Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins are also heading to California. The two have been traded to the Clippers for shooting guard Cuttino Mobley and forward Tim Thomas, clearing even more salary for 2010. In other crazy Knicks news, they may have to dress Stephon Marbury tonight to have the 8 players required by league rules. more ›

Last Night's Action: Not Bad, But Not Great

Last Night's Action: Not Bad, But Not Great

  • Cavaliers 102, Nets 86: LeBron James put on a show, scoring 31 points. Maybe he'll be wearing a Nets uniform in 2010. Devin Harris had 23 points and four assists, but he also had five turnovers. New Jersey actually led this game at the half, but the Cavs outscored the Nets by 15 in the third quarter. more ›

  • Mavericks 124, Knicks 114: A 19-2 run in the final 7:26 minutes. They went 0-for-14 from the 2:28 mark of regulation. Zach Randolph had 27 points and 18 rebounds. Every Knicks starter had at least 14 points, but it just wasn't enough. Defense is needed to from time to time.

Making The Call: Knicks Are Finally Watchable Again

Making The Call: Knicks Are Finally Watchable Again

Maybe it was Isiah Thomas and his constant trades that did it. Maybe it was the lousy basketball that did it. Maybe you are just waiting (and waiting) for the Nets to move to Brooklyn. Whatever the reason, at some point you stopped caring about the Knicks and no one can blame you. Being a Knicks’ fan has been almost impossible for the last few years and having doubts about their 6-3 start is only natural. more ›

Last Night's Action: Break Up The Knicks!

Last Night's Action: Unfamiliar Face, Familiar Result

  • Pacers 98, Nets 87: What good is having Vince Carter if no one falls in behind him? Mr. Inconsistency Yi Jianlian went 4-of-13 from the field and just 1-of-6 from 2-point land. Carter had 28 points but somehow managed only one rebound in 40 minutes. Weird.

    Last Night's Action: Streak Over

  • Flyers 3, Islanders 1: Uniondale's Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum rightfully hosted this Veterans Day matinee, but things didn't go that well for the home team. They put 28 shots on goal through the first two periods but still entered the second intermission trailing, 1-0. Things didn't get better after that. Trent Hunter scored the lone New York goal, but that came with his team down by two. The Flyers added an empty-net goal for good measure. Colin Powell was in attendance and saw an impotent power play. The Islanders went 0-for-8 and missed on two 5-on-3's. That's no good.

  • Devils 4, Lightning 3 (SO): Martin who? Well, not yet. But Kevin Weekes came up big in a shootout and the Devils picked up the win in their first game since announcing Martin Brodeur would be out 3-4 months following elbow surgery. Patrik Elias and Jamie Langenbrunner had the shootout goals for New Jersey. Elias joined David Clarkson and Jay Pandolfo as the regulation goal-scorers. The Devils sit idle until Saturday, when they visit Detroit.

Last Night's Action: Just End Already!

It’s clear from things like the 18-minute shoot-around the other day that Isiah simply doesn’t care anymore. And while that isn’t necessarily a surprise and may not even cost him a job in the organization, it is disappointing to see from someone who competed the way Isiah did on the court. more ›

Last Night's Action: Another Step Closer To The End

The Knicks keep finding new and interesting ways to lose. Monday’s 110-98 loss saw them shoot the lights out from three-point range, hitting 47%, but miss a lot of shots from inside the arc, hitting less than 40%. Zach Randolph had a nice game, scoring 21 points and pulling down 14 rebounds while Wilson Chandler continued his development with an up-and-down night that saw him score 15 points. more ›

Last Night's Action: The Knicks Lose By Winning

Nate Robinson had 17 points, Jamal Crawford had 23 and Zach Randolph added 19 points and 12 boards while the Knicks “improved” to 19-46.

  • Nets 104 Cleveland 99: LeBron had 42 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists, but it wasn’t enough. The Cavaliers simply didn’t play defense, allowing the Nets to shoot 51% from the field and put six-different players into double figures.
  • Florida 4 Islanders 2: Blake Comeau scored a goal to tie things up at 2 in the third period, but Florida answered just over a minute later when Karlis Skrastins beat Rick DiPietro. Hope remains, but the Islanders are running out of chances to get into the playoffs.

  • Mavericks 111 Nets 91: Jason Kidd got his first crack at his old team and he spent the night dishing the ball. Kidd finished with 13 assists, a lot of them to Dirk Nowitski, who scored 34, and Dallas cruised to an easy win.

  • Hornets 107, Nets 96: Chris Paul looks like a quicker and better-shooting version of Jason Kidd. The Hornets' young star put up 25 points and 16 assists as the Hornets won this one easily. Richard Jefferson led all scorers with 27, but Nenad Krstic's 14 points and 11 rebounds had to bring a smile to Lawrence Frank's face. Devin Harris, still getting adjusted, had 17 points and eight assists, but he was clearly the second-best point guard on the court.

Last Night's Action: Another Fun Night In Knickland

Last Night's Action: Another Fun Night In Knickland

The Knicks clinched a losing record for the season with their 100-88 defeat Monday, but what happened off the court was much more interesting. Stephon Marbury, the pariah point guard who was reportedly banned from MSG, was supposed to show up tonight. At the morning shootaround Isiah told reporters, “We expect him here tonight,” when discussing Marbury. And, true to form, Marbury made his coach look bad again by not showing up at all. more ›

Last Night's Action: No Rest for the Weary

  • Flyers 4, Islanders 1: Someone should tell the Islanders they're supposed to have the advantage when they have a power play. Mike Knuble's short-handed goal -- which he didn't even realize he scored -- put this game out of reach. New York has allowed 13 such scores this season, most in the league. The Islanders face a quick turnaround as well; Florida visits Uniondale on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Last Night's Action: A Knick Comeback?

Ming finished with 36 points as the Knicks once again showed their indifference to the defensive end of the floor. Both Curry and Randolph were in the starting lineup, which doesn’t help matters. Last Night's Action: One Point In Canada

Unfortunately for New York, Ryan Hollweg took a stupid boarding penalty and his five-minute major penalty combined with Martin Staraka’s holding penalty resulted in a 5-on-3 advantage for the Oilers. Edmonton converted and their second power-play goal of the game looked like it would hold up. But, Sean Avery drew a big penalty late in the third and with the goaltender pulled, the Rangers converted with six second left in the game, thanks to Chris Drury and after overtime, things headed to a shootout. more ›

Last Night's Action: An Overtime Winner

That’s where things stood well into the third period. The Rangers thought they had tied the game when Fedor Tutyin’s wrist shot was ruled a goal on the ice, but video replay overturned it. A few minutes later Chris Drury tied things up with a great effort. And, Drury figured in the overtime winner. After Montreal turned the puck over, Girardi made a brilliant pass to Drury who led Brendan Shanahan perfectly and Shanahan deposited the puck into the net for a very satisfying end to 2007. more ›
