Dreidel Spinning Record Broken In Time For Hanukkah
Mazel tov! Yeshiva University students were trying to get 541 people to break the Guinness World Record for simultaneously spinning dreidels, but the miracle of Hanukkah gave them even more! 618 people gathered last night for "Dreidelpalooza" to beat the record and raise scholarship money for the University. And though Guinness still has to verify the record, it looks like the mission was accomplished. It's probably because everyone got this epic pep talk:

Chanukah, everyone's favorite not-really-a-high-holiday-but-let's-treat-it-like-one-anyway holiday, starts on December 2nd, bringing with it all the thrills of playing dreidel. And two Yeshiva University students are trying to make the game about more than just cheating your cousins out of all their gelt. Tomorrow's "Dreidelpalooza," organized by two Yeshiva University students, will attempt to draw over 540 dreidel spinners to get the whole thing into the Guinness Book of World Records.

After a two year absence, 47-year-old Yeshiva University literature professor Jay Ladin returned to school last week as Joy Ladin, putting the oy in Joy by arriving at the midtown campus wearing a black skirt and pink lipstick. According to the head of the National Center for Transgender Equality, Ladin is the only transgender employee of a religiously conservative university in America.

The Chronicle of Higher Education released its annual salary survey of the heads of educational institutions and the value of a college education is evidenced in the paychecks being cashed by institutions' presidents. More than a dozen heads of private universities took home more than $1 million during the 2005-06 school year. The NY Times reports that an additional 64 train cars that would take advantage of the "high-tech signal system" the MTA spent so much time installing won't be on tracks before January 2010. Which means that you'll have to make do with waiting for now!
